Aunt Hazel and Me
Aunt
Hazel's Garden was a special place for my family and me when I was
young and as I grew older. When we visited Aunt Hazel and Uncle Harry a
beautiful table would be set where we enjoyed a delicious meal, often to
celebrate a birthday.

After the meal we always took a trip down
to the garden to enjoy the beauty that Aunt Hazel cultivated in her
backyard. My sister and I would prepare our newspapers and moist paper
towels which would eventually hold the bouquets of flowers that we
eagerly picked from Hazel's garden.

How I Learned to Garden
Hazel's
love for gardening attracted me to want to garden too. Hazel would
bring flowers down to my house so I could plant them in my garden where I
grew up. When I married and had a garden of my own Aunt Hazel would
give me flowers to plant in my yard and I learned how to keep them alive
in my garden. I had plants from Hazel, bought plants from nurseries and
had established plants in my yard, all of which I cared for. I learned
through the years which plants did well in my climate, sun and shade
areas of my garden and which plants did not do well due to my type of
soil or pests in my garden.
In
Aunt Hazel's Garden I share what I have learned from Hazel and what I
have learned from my experience in the garden. I share the plants that
have grown for me and have brought me great joy in watching them grow. I
share my knowledge of individual plants, my creativity of decorating in
my garden and my goal of creating a beautiful space where one can enjoy
so many things. At times I also share a picture from Hazel's garden
that so inspired me. As you can see there is a bit of nostalgia that
comes to my mind when I share about gardening.
Now there's a little background as to why I call this blog Aunt Hazel's Garden
and why I say,
Life in Aunt Hazel’s Garden
was a special place filled with color, wonder, scents and wonderful
possibilities. I still get whiffs of scents that take me back to her
garden. Aunt Hazel inspired
me to love gardening by sharing her lovely garden and its produce with
us as kids and her bringing of plants to my childhood home for me to
learn to grow.
In her memory and the genuine love that I now have for creating a beautiful space and cultivating each plant’s potential, I want to share with you the many joys that gardening offers. Her love for gardening lives on in a very special way for me.
Now you know how I fell in love with gardening!
Thanks Aunt Hazel!
